My reason for choosing this Challenge was to give me more experience with taking action shots and hopefully get some good ideas from all of you....
#1
I chose this shot because I thought it showed the batters action , plus it caught the ball sitting in the catchers glove :-)
Shot at 1/1600 f/4.5 ISO 640 82mm focal setting
#2
Another Batter, same results.. Swing and a miss. Notice the ball, my intent was to get the ball in mid air, this time it worked.
Shot at 70mm focal length, 1/1600 f/4.5 ISO 640
#3
Attempted Steal....and he's SAFE!!!!
165mm Focal Length, 1/1600, f/5 ISO 640
#4
I was thrilled to catch this player in mid-air as she cleared the goalie
277mm Focal Length, 1/2500, f/5.6 ISO 640
#5
What I tried to do here was show the car was obviously moving. The purpose was to show background movement and get the car as clear as possible, except to have the wheels appear to be rotating.. I wasn't thrilled with the focus of the car, but I hope you appreciate what I was attempting.
62mm Focal length, 1/50, f/36, ISO 640
#6
Unlike the above picture, I held the camera steady and allowed the subject to pass thru the frame. In #5 I attempted to follow the subject with the camera therby blurring the background.
34mm focal length, 1/40, f29, ISO 640
#7
Just because it's my granddaughter :-) I know I said 5 pictures but I couldn't stop ...LOL
220mm focal length, 1/1250, f/9, ISO 640

Hi Mark, I enjoyed the descriptions on all your photos. My favorite is #3, I like what the photo shows, sliding into base, showing action at it's best! I LOVE photographs of baseball!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo....I was lucky to find a high school baseball game at the soccer field and decided to take advantage of it. Now I'd like to find a football game next
DeleteHi Mark, I like what you did ! I can see what you mean about stopping the moving object with the blurred background (which I tried, just couldn't get it to happen) and vice versa. I believe my favorite would be #5, because it's an awesome car :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed them Robin.....and I couldn't agree more about the car.... :-)
DeleteHey Mark, I liked all your shots. It's hard to do when you're trying to get the effect. I was going to try to find a ball game but not!!
ReplyDeleteBase runner is the one I like best. The runners are clear enough to see their expressions, moving runner and stopped ball.
The jumper is a great clear shot except she gets lost in the background.
Good topic this week.
thanks for the input there Burr...I must admit I didn't give any thought to the background overpowering the subject in that pic until you mentioned it...that observation is spot on and that's what I love abouit this stuff, we learn something from every challenge......
DeleteUh....yupper, once again, great postings showing you really DO know what you are doing! My faves are #3 - The Slider and it captured so many elements simultaneously.....and #7 - Cayley playing soccer. Perfect action shot in my book!! NICE.
ReplyDeletethanks Sis, I really enjoy the action shots a s you know, so that really does make it easy for me
